Known as "Kipling Country", Bandhavgarh lies in eastern Madhya Pradesh in the northernmost spur of the Maikal Hill Range in the Vidhyas, which it shares with Kanha NP. It occupies 437 sq. km. with vast tracts of jungle, open grassy plains and, of course, tigers. But despite the parks small size, it is home to some 50 to 70 tigers, the highest desity of tigers of any park on earth, and your chances of sighting one are high in a stay of three days.

Besides the sought-after tiger, the NP much more for a fabulous forest experience; It is home to spotted deer, sambar, chinkara, nilgai and wild boars. The varied topography includes ranges of of flat-topped hills that proved natural location for the 14th century Bandhavgarh Fort in the center, dominating the landscape. Large meadows such as Chakradhara and Sehra, and swampy ground like the Sidhababa Meadow, lie at the base. It is surrounded by the Sone River to the east, the Johilla River to the south, and drained by the Umrar River to the west.

There are four entrances to the park: Panpatha in the north, Tala in the east, Dhamokar on the south-western and Khitauli to the west.

  By Air : Jabalpur to Bandhavgarh is 168 Kms & 3 hrs driving time approx on NH12 via Obaidullaganj and Suatala.
  By Train : Closest Railway station: Umaria or Katni Umaria to Bandhavgarh is 25 Kms & 45 mins driving distance approx on NH78 Katni to Bandhavgarh is 100 Kms & 2 hrs driving distance approx on NH7
  By Road : Route from Bhopal NH12 to Jabalpur, 10 hrs from Bhopal.
  • Weather: Tropical – hot during the day. Summer (April-June). Rainfall: Heavy in the monsoon season (mid June to September) and average rainfall is 1100 mm.
  • Best Time to Travel: October to June when game viewing is at its best.
  • Malaria: Though Mahua Kothi is situated in a low risk malaria area, necessary precautions should be taken. Insect repellant will be provided in your suite.
  • Lodge Closure: 1st July to 15th October

Day 1:

Arrive Jabalpur or Katni:

On arrival at Jabalpur or Katni (depending on your mode of transport), drive to Bandhavgarh. On arrival, check in at Taj safari lodge, Mahua Kothi. After lunch, embark on an afternoon Jeep safari to the NP. Dinner and overnight at the resort.

Day 2:


Early morning, embark on a jeep safari. Later after breakfast, take to a nature trail for a birding hike. After lunch, embark on another safari (Subject to the plan booked, optional). Dinner & overnight at the resort.

Day 3:

Bandhavgarh - Jabalpur or Katni:

After breakfast, depart for Jabalpur / Katni. Transfer to the airport / railway station as per your mode of transport.
